Future BYU Quarterback Updates

Max Hall now needs just four wins to become the winningest starting QB in BYU history, so let's borrow Dr. Brown's flux capacitor and take a brief look at the future.  Riley Nelson has looked promising in the few looks we've had thus far.  Nelson has now carried the ball 7 times for 32 yards and two touchdowns, and is 5 for 5 passing for 73 yards and a TD - all for a whopping 288.64 passer rating.  Dude has some legitimate wheels - he should be the most mobile QB in Provo since Nelson's current coach, Brandon Doman.  Not that Hall has been a major lead-foot, but Nelson will bring a dynamic the Cougar offense has sorely lacked for many seasons...

Here's some further info:

James Lark and Jason Munns: Each of these QB's are still serving LDS missions.  Lark will return in January, Munns in May 2010.

Jake Heaps: Another blowout for the Spartans (5-1). Skyline HS defeated Eastlake HS 43-7 last week and is currently ranked 32nd in the nation by Rivals. Heaps was 14-29 for 270 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Ho hum...

Tanner Mangum: The sophomore from Timberline HS in Boise was 11-31 for 125 yards in a 48-0 loss...

Alex Kuresa: 14-of-17 passing for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The junior led Mountain Crest to a 42-21 victory over Logan...

is the ho hum over jake heaps b/c he might end up like ben olsen?

enquiring minds won’t to know. why do you even mention mr magnun. new mexico would be the only team dumb enough to draft a guy with those stats and 48 – 0 blowout!

“why do you even mention mr magnun. new mexico would be the only team dumb enough to draft a guy with those stats and 48 – 0 blowout!”

Firstly, it’s Mangum not Mangnun. His bro’s already on the team.

Secondly, Tanner Mangum passed for 2,865 yards and 29 touchdowns as a 9th grader playing varsity last year. He was 219-for-339 and was picked off just eight times.Consequently, Mangum is on Max Preps’ Class of 2012 Top 100 players list.

Thirdly, universities, such as UNM, don’t “draft” they recruit and assign scholarships barring students meeting certain enrollment criteria.

Lastly, the “Ho hum” was a subtle attempt at humor. The kid threw for nearly 300 yards and 4 TD’s while leading his nationally ranked team to victory – and nobody is surprised in the least.

nit-pickers everywhere. i put the n in the wrong place

so byu has all these qb’s on the radar. next thing you will tell me is their is a eighth grader in utah who is torching all of his peers in jv ball. i don’t care what any high school kid has done b/c of the ben olsen’s of the world. notre dame seems to get some of espn’s top 150 high school players who get scholarships to notre dame with all there so called talent. notre dame seems to have a top 10, top 20 recruiting class just about every year and they have sucked for at least 12 years. well they did have that one year brady quinn did well and they did beat that powerhouse hawaii for the first bowl win in 11 or 12 tries last year. jimmy clausen said he would win the heisman and win a couple of national championships at notre dame. the only thing clausen is going to be doing this weekend is having his grill planted on the field by the usc defense. i’m guessing you are getting nervous about the tcu game. pray for cold and snow b/c that is the only way byu would have a chance. scramble and ramble on! p.s. keep up the good work on 10th graders of the world. that is my attempt at humor. no it’s downright sarcastic. tcu 28 byu 17. peace out!

If you're going to nit-pick

you have to expect it in return;)

“i don’t care what any high school kid has done b/c of the ben olsen’s of the world.”

You’re entitled to such, it is hard to determine a player’s success based off of their performance in HS. However, I’d argue that the true, die-hards are genuinely interested in the program’s future, and all we have to go off of are what these prospects are doing currently.

I had a hard time getting through the rest of your breakdown. Sorry. I caught some insights into Notre Dame somewhere in there. I just skipped to the TCU/BYU prediction. Maybe if you tried hitting the “Enter” key every couple of sentences…;)

good luck in the emarald bowl or poinsetta bowl. i think that is the third option for the mwc.

i really do mean that one. i would like for all the mwc teams to win there bowl games. it just makes the conference look better. tcu goes undefeated. bcs bowl bid. i hope vs an sec team. utah to play in vegas bowl where they would be motivated b/c they have an 8 game bowl streak and would like to make it 9. good luck with either a wac team or conf. usa team peace.

i apologize to our spelling bee champion.

emerald bowl should have gotten that one right. i forgot an i in poinsettia bowl. i’m fainting as i write just like the kid did when he missed his word. it was on espn. i still wish byu good luck in either bowl. i won’t apologize for your pathetic performance vs fsu and vs ariaona in last years vegas bowl. peace to all the nit-pickers of the world and peace for my fellow mwc fans.
