NY Times: Utah State Season Preview

+
Season breakdown & prediction: Some Aggie fans may expect more than three wins in 2009, and that is certainly possible: This is as talented as the Aggies have been in many years. Utah State will beat Southern Utah and should beat both Idaho and New Mexico State, especially when considering its recent success against the latter pair. However, though I respect Gary Anderson and acknowledge the returning experience on the Aggie roster, I can’t see this team doing any better than the three-win total of a season ago. For one, U.S.U. will be on the receiving end of three blowouts in non-conference play. I understand the importance of maintaining long-standing rivalries (the Beehive Boot with Utah and B.Y.U.) and "paycheck" games (A&M), but this difficult out-of-conference slate will set Utah State back to 1-3 before WAC play begins. Another issue is this vastly improved WAC, which will feature at least five bowl teams. In what games, outside of Idaho, N.M.S.U. and possibly San Jose State, will U.S.U. be favored? Crazier things have happened, but I predict Utah State to finish either 3-9 or 4-8. This is a young team, and will be better in 2010 and beyond.
