Huskies Cold-Shoulder Cougars
Here's one for the WTF column: Washington backs out of two scheduled games with BYU in 2011 and 2012 to play powerhouse Eastern Washington...nice Steve Sarkisian, nice. Try garnering national respect by playing...er, a glorified high school team?
I'd like to see BYU fill the void with Boise State... oh wait...

You guys are already scheduled to play Boise State 2012 through 2015

That’s a four game series, and it wouldn’t fill the hole in the schedule in 2012.
weber state and eastern washington both play in the big sky conference?
two teams in the mwc did play weber state. maybe washington is scared of jake heaps and his buddies coming to byu. there are from washington state. maybe sarkisian thinks heaps will be like jake locker but with more weapons.

Pfft
Without Jake Locker, Washington is nothing!
I grew up a Huskies fan and still follow their program. I guess this keeps me from being conflicted in 2011 and 2012.
your not reading my comment correctly
it says maybe sarkisian thinks jake heaps will be like jake locker but with more weapons. weapons meaning better rb’s and wr’s at byu. that’s all. i think that’s what you mean by pfft title. i might be reading you wrong a little. not sure. peace out.

I understand
this from UW’s perspective. They’ll already have played the Cougars in ‘08 and ’10. When they already possess a conference schedule (USC, Cal, Oregon, etc.) that enables them to compete for a BCS birth – why continue a relationship that isn’t going to necessarily be cost-effective nor shift your program closer to a National Championship.
From the article:
Washington athletic director Scott Woodward said that the cost guarantees for scheduling a Football Bowl Subdivision team from a non-automatic qualifying BCS conference have gotten too expensive and that dropping down to add a FCS team is the best move for now.
BYU’s Future Non-Conference Schedule:
2010: Washington; @ Florida State; Nevada; @ Utah State
2011: _; Arizona State; Utah State
2012: Hawaii; @ Boise State; ______; @ Utah State
2013: Boise State; @ Hawaii; ______; ______
2014: @ Boise State; ______: ______; ______
2015: Boise State; ______; ______; ______
Personally, I was aware of the Boise State scheduling but like the rest of you – wish they were conference games. Also, I’m fine with scheduling the Aggies each season – as long as that’s the 3rd or 4th noteworthy non-conference opponent. This season, for instance appears ideal and next season’s should be terrific.
However, now with the void remaining in 2011 (for an away game) and 2012 (at home), I’d like to schedule something with another school in the ACC or Big East. Similar to what TCU has done with Virginia (2009, 2012). I’d love to play West Virginia or even Boston College again…

Right
Scheduling games against the ACC and Big East would be extremely wise and hopefully beneficial for BYU, because those are the teams and conferences they’re directly competing against for the next BCS AQ…
Good call…

From last night's Mendenhall Show
: the coach says Washington went about canceling the back half of its four-year series with BYU “the correct way.” He says he’s not “enamored” of scheduling Pac-10 teams, since the MWC’s current bowl arrangement lines the league up with Pac-10 teams on an annual basis already, and those bowl meetings are kind of “like another league” game, considering BYU’s recent slate of Pac-10 contests.
and
: Bronco listed the ACC and Big East as primary “target conferences” for non-league games, considering BYU’s competition with those leagues for automatic BCS qualification. He also added that he “likes the Big 10,” and “possibly continuing with the Big 12.” Bronco listed Northwestern as a specific school he finds intriguing, in addition to the two eastern military academies.

BYU has 2 openings in 2011
I am cautiously optomistic that this June the MWC will announce that Boise State will be joining the MWC in 2011.
Some of these other openings might be used to deal with potential WAC scheduling issues caused by Boise State leaving.
