Dennis Pitta Screwed!

Hard to say there was a better tight end in the country this year than Dennis Pitta, but the voters of the Mackey Award sure think there was. Pitta led the nation's tight ends in reception yards (789), yards per game (65) and yards per catch (13.8), and was second in touchdowns (7) and receptions (57 - two behind the award winner) yet came up short against Florida's Aaron Hernandez. Ridiculous. But, Pitta was named to the 2009 Walter Camp All-America team.

Also, Coach Edwards received the "Contributions to College Football Award." Edwards was honored during the ESPNU College Football Awards tonight on ESPN.

What an absolute joke!

Picking Hernandez over Pitta makes absolutely no sense at all. Pitta’s the All-American, better NFL prospect, and has absolutely owned the TE position since he broke into the College Football scene. There is only one explanation for why this happened… Hernandez plays in the SEC.

I started watching the program late and saw them pan the camera to Edwards. Good to hear about his award. It’s cool to see him getting around the scene again.

He's great

But Hernandez is more of an NFL prototype. We’ve heard every year about theBYU tight end will change pro football, it rarely occurs. I think you guys use your TEs beautifully and brilliantly, but they typically are not built like most pro TEs and they don’t spend as much time blocking.
