Pitta Named Consensus All-American

For the first time since Luke Staley in 2001, a BYU player has been named a Consensus All-American. Dennis Pitta, as has been well documented here, was snubbed in the post season awards, but did become BYU football's 13th consensus pick.

BYU's first Consensus All-American was Marc Wilson in 1979. Since Wilson, Cougars to have earned such a status include offensive lineman Nick Eyre (1980), Jim McMahon (1981), tight end Gordon Hudson (1982, 1983), Steve Young (1983), defensive lineman Jason Buck (1986), offensive lineman Mohammed Elewonibi (1989), tight end Chris Smith (1990), Ty Detmer (1990, 1991), and of course, Luke Staley (2001).
