BYU Drops to No. 20 in AP, No. 21 in Coaches

The week four college football polls released earlier today place the Cougars at 20th (AP) and 21st (Coaches) respectively.  Oregon, (3-1), Kansas (4-0) and Georgia (3-1) each moved ahead of BYU after each won on Saturday.  Despite covering the spread (17) and beating a previously undefeated CSU program, the Cougars were obviously hurt by Florida State's loss to South Florida.  The Seminoles dropped out the rankings entirely while the Bulls (4-0) received 145 AP votes (good enough for 29th) - just in front of UCLA and Utah.

Both Kansas (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas) and Georgia (LSU, Florida, Georgia Tech) have some marquee opponents in the future.  Oregon plays at UCLA and Washington before hosting USC.  But there are some other schools that could move ahead of the Cougars barring further success in their respective conference games.  Mississippi, Michigan, Nebraska, and Cal are a few of those programs.

If BYU is going to continue moving up the polls they'll certainly need to dominate in the games leading up to TCU...

How did we drop again?

This is absurd. How many teams AHEAD of us, lost to an unsavory foe? And we drop a spot or two? Com’n! This thing is rigged!

its a simple reason....

more punishment for the terrible performance against FSU. FSU’s loss to a good USF team makes BYU look that much worse. And the Cougs didn’t exactly look stellar against Colorado State….and remember, nobody gets to watch BYU nationally on the terrible Mtn. channel. No chance for BYU to bust the BCS this year even if they finish strong. I’d say root for Boise State to do it again to keep mid major conferences putting pressure on the system.

If Boise State were to win out....

…they’re guaranteed at WORST top 3 with the way things are as LSU, Alabama and Florida will have a loss for 2 of those 3.

If texas or the one of the 3 that doesn’t lose between themselves in the SEC were to lose, then they can get a top 2 seed.

if only

boise state had a stronger schedule. then we could definitely see some major waves in the system

national exposure

BYU dropped for one reason: the Mtn. ESPN is going to play up Boise State because they have them on ESPN 5-6 more times this year playing high school teams. TCU was on national, so they climbed – I love ESPN 360! And Houston has won a couple of big time games and was on national. BYU has a loooonnnggg run of of games on The Mtn. Most of us with Dish are screwed. And so are the Cougs. They’ll climb slowly or not at all unless the teams in front of them start dropping like flies thanks to the lame channel they are stuck on and that no-show against Florida State. TCU is looming as the biggest game for our program in the past 5 years (which is strange considering that Oklahoma game). I watched TCU play Clemson, and I was thoroughly impressed. They’re strong, and they don’t really make mistakes.

I love Commissioner Craig. He’s my friend and yours Cougar Fans. It’s the only thing that depresses me about Cougar Football. Our crappy television coverage.
