SB Nation Power Poll: No. 11 BYU
"On Saturday, the Mountain West Conference's top two teams square off in a game that will put place- and likely the MWC regular season crown - on the line. If you're Versus, you're salivating at this, right? You would think, only there's no explicit mention of the game anywhere on the main page of their website. After a few carefully selected click-throughs, you're given a link to read a preview from one of the network's college basketball analyst. But that link is broken, and Versus wants you to feel like a complete idiot for their webpage FAIL."

OVERRATED.
I don’t think it’s coincidence or luck that BYU destroys bad teams and UNM struggles against them. Basketball Prospectus’ favorite way to analyze hoops is on a per-possession basis. We lead the nation in efficiency margin (score more per possession than we allow).
And I love what Gasaway had to say about everyone crowning UNM:
I’m with Ken Pomeroy on this one. If New Mexico is a three-seed we could probably improve seeding by simply drawing numbers out of a hat. And it’s not just the Lobos beating Air Force by a measly three points at home on Saturday, though that certainly was notable.
It’s a recurring theme with UNM, and it won’t last forever. I’m hoping a complete thrashing will settle this debate once and for all. We are the better team.
Here’s to a 25 point win.
My swag was phenomenal.
25 is asking a lot
but i dont see that happening. i see a win by single digits, close enough that jimmer will tack on 6 points with free throws in the last minute of the game.
the key imo: keeping new mehico off the offensive boards. byu did great in this against sdsu with the guards coming down to supports the bigs, as well as getting the ball in transition so quickly which prevented sdsu’s guys from focusing on offensive rebounds because their coach was all over them for transition d. HOWEVER, their best rebounder was out of the game. so we will see if this works on unm tomorrow
i DO NOT think unm is overrated. the edge goes to the cougars simply by way of home court advantage. after seeing how this game goes, we can predict better how they will play on a neutral court in vegas if they meet up
I think 25 is out there but hey we can hope right?
It’s not like we haven’t done that to a dozen teams this year. BYU should win by at least double digits, my guess is 12+.
BYU will win big if JF gets to the FT line 10+ times. Our transition into the front court is among the best in the nation and we will sting UNM with it multiple times.
As long as JF is on along with one other supporting player BYU will win.
And yes se7en, UNM is overrated. At the end of the day their argument about beating top 25 teams will be dead because come Monday the only team they will have beaten that will still be ranked will be 1… BYU (A&M lost so they’ll be gone). While BYU will potentially have 3… UNM, UTEP, and USU.
