Aztecs, Lobos both escape and advance
San Diego State's D.J. Gay made two free throws with 23 seconds remaining to tie and then take the lead, 72-71. Adam Nigon led the Rams with 18 points but they came up just short in fulfilling Layton's prediction.
AFA also gave New Mexico a fight in the second half of their matchup, but Darington Hobson went ballistic and led the Lobos to a 75-69 win.
The Aztecs and Lobos will meet each other in tomorrow night's semifinal game at 6 PM. SDSU beat New Mexico in San Diego and lost in OT at The Pit last month.

lets go chalk!
i want unlv to beat utah in the first round (who the surprisingly havent beaten yet this year). i want to see what this byu team can do. we have had high expectations all year in anticipation for these tournaments. lets see if byu can exercise their demons(pun intended) and beat unlv in their house. then on to their chance to TOTALLY redeem themselves and go and do something like smashing new mexico!
Here’s to high hopes!
Go SDSU
I just saw on ESPN that they have SDSU as one of the last four in, but I think they still need a win vs New Mexico to solidify a spot in the dance. It would be great to see 4 MTN teams get in.
I hate Robert Horry
sdsu
likely needs to beat new mexico tomorrow to get in. as much as i want four teams to get in, i want byu to face new mehico in the tourney championship. to show the conference who the nation who the true top team is and to show the media who the top player is.
