Let's go Cougs!
It would be a great tribute
he’s a once in a lifetime type player.
If BYU builds a statue for Jimmer
they should put a wall behind it that is covered with all the names of the opposing teams/players that Jimmer single handedly destroyed. The biggest name would be Tre’Von Willis. Jimmer absolutely humiliated him time after time.
OR they could put all of the Jimmerisms on the wall.
OR just put the statue of Jimmer on the roof of the Marrriot Center. Too much?

Na that's not what BYU is about nor what Jimmer is about.
It’s about the team for him and it always has been. Same for BYU.

Stockton to Malone- The perfect combination!!

True but does he deserve one?
The question isn’t will he get one…

Absolutely true
If BYU were to consider a statue it would not only be for outstanding contribution athletically but a continued example of the mission of the Church and University after their collegiate career. It’s the same reason Mac will probably never get into the BYU Sports Hall of Fame. Sure he was beyond believable on the field but hasn’t exactly endorsed the mission of BYU since he saw Provo in his rear view mirror.
Didn't he also not finish his degree?
I thought that was a requirement?

From what I understand
he finished school. He just did it online and/or out of normal classrooms because BYU asked him to stop attending classes since he was being a distraction to the other students. I’m sure Jimmer just went to class and paid attention but all the other stupid students were always bugging him for autographs and photos.

Mac never finished
Rumors are he was working on finishing but after his comments re: The Honor Code recently, I doubt he ever gets in.
I see
Haha well in that case I don’t think he deserves one anyways. He hasn’t represented BYU positively since he left.

Meant Jimmy btw
I agree, he hasn’t reped BYU well at all since he left and his comments probably gives the HC office nightmares.

he is currently finishing his degree online
When he is done he will be in the BYU sports HoF.
My idea: change name of marriott center to the Danny Ainge Center. Then outside LES build QB park with statues for Jim/steve/ty/etc. Ok, maybe don’t call it QB park but do football statues out there & then outside the new Ainge Center build statues for Danny/jimmer/kresmir/etc.

How about a statue of the whole team?
Would that be more fitting?

Understand that mentality
just thought it was a relevant topic with Kareem whining about not getting one and Shaq getting one at LSU.
I think jgiifford has a point about BYU waiting to see how he represents the school over the next decade or two. Schools probably want to make sure he doesn’t have any PR disasters (not saying Jimmer would) and be cautious before they erect a statue.
basketball is a team sport.
Anderson Silva would never fight "Bones". He is too scared to fight the real P4P champion. Nick Diaz, the man who will prove to the MMA world that he is the best WW in the world. Whenever some new guy comes to Mania and thinks he knows it all they take on the Wolfman and proceed to make fools of themselves. Still public enemy #1 and enjoying every minute of it. Oswalds smack is weaker than the alcohol content of Utah beer.

If I was to nominate two players
they would be: Kresimir Cosic and Steve Young. Danny Ainge would come in close third.
Cosic had a stellar college career, turned down multiple offers to play in the NBA and other pro leagues, won an Olympic gold medal with Yugoslavia as a player, won a bronze as coach, and was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996. Plus he was a great missionary for the Church. He translated the Book of Mormon and Doctrine & Covenants into Croatian.
As for Steve Young, you all know what he has done. He is the most recognizable football player to come out of BYU.

Jimmer deserves a statue
Depending on how things play out, he may warrant one. If we end up going to the Final Four one day, it may be him who put us on the national map. And if h turns out to be good in the NBA, that might help as well. Overall I think he deserves a statue, but only after years have gone by and we see how his contributions really affected the school.
Born in Provo, raised in Atlanta.

Crowd: "NOOOO!!!!"
*airball*
I think you just made the case for danny ainge
He put the school on the map (coast to coast vs. ND). He won multiple Championships in the NBA. He has not brought shame to BYU in the way he has lived his life.

Good point
I wasn’t alive during Ainge’s BYU days, but I can tell you I’ve seen his coast to coast play hundreds of times. He’s been a good representative off the court after his days at BYU were finished which as I said before does factor in.
But for as good as Ainge was, did he come close to ever reaching the level of play that Jimmer did this season? Honest question.
I wasn't alive during Cosic or Ainge's time
so I don’t fully understand the impact they had on the school, the state, and nation but I did witness Jimmermania! If either of them generated even a fraction of the interest in BYU as Jimmer did then they deserve statues. I agree that we should hold off a few years on making a statue for Jimmer but as long as he is still representing BYU in a positive light (I see no reason as to why he wouldn’t) then build him a dang statue!

Agreed
I’d like to hear from people who saw both Cosic and Ainge play (since wheatie and I weren’t alive yet) and if they can give an honest assessment on if Jimmer surpassed them in terms of level of play and were better players during their times as Cougars.
Hey guys, Pacers fan
