Love how all these Ute fans think TV money will take Utah to new heights. Your currently in the hole and now your cost of living goes up.
This is like hearing about the “Fiesta Bowl money” what good was that? Still runnin in the red. Once losses pile up lets see how excited u r
And money has sure built up powers like Vanderbilt. An ugly duck is an ugly duck. Have fun on FX Utes!

"Fiesta Bowl money" what good was that?

Utah Safeties coach Morgan Scalley who was captain of the team that went to the Fiesta Bowl said that if he was coming out of high school today, Utah wouldn’t even consider him. You can say the Fiesta bowl money was meaningless, but compare the Utes pre Fiesta bowl to post Fiesta Bowl. There is a marked improvement. That is with a one time payment of about $6 million minus expenses.

With PAC 12 sharing money it will not be a one time payment, it will be a constant stream. Add in the TV deal just signed, The PAC 12 network money on its way, plus BCS and NCAA tournament payouts for the conference. In a few years that $1.2 million annual MWC payout will be $30 million annually from the PAC 12.

You always hear about how the SEC has facilities and media attention that no other conference can rival. That helps with their recruiting. The PAC 12 is moving into an new era where they can start competing with similar facilities and national media attention. I am excited for the Utes and the conference.

Once losses pile up lets see how excited u r.

I know we will lose more frequently because we will have better competition. Going undefeated like we did in 2004 and 2008 will be near impossible. The victories will be much more sweet though. We both know that a win against New Mexico gives as much satisfaction as beating a child at a game of basketball. Follow that up with a game against Wyoming and Colorado St. and it can be painfull. Especially if you have an OOC game with San Jose St.

You are excited about some of the big games you have coming up with your new schedule too. I bet you will lose some of those, yet I bet you are excited about games like the upcoming Texas game. We are in a similar situation here. I am nervous about the consistent depth of our competition, but I don’t see why I should not be excited about it.

BYU fans are excited about the national exposure that comes with ESPN and independence. I am excited about the national exposure that comes with the PAC 12.

These are good points,

But the Utes won’t be getting that money for a few years. And even with the money it doesn’t directly guarantee much. Look at teams like WSU, Vandy, Kansas (all in football). The Utes will need to consistently win in order for that increased revenue to mean anything.

But winning may not be as hard as some BYU fans would want to admit. You guys did get the easier division especially with USC’s sanctions. If Utah wins their division each year while USC can’t do anything it’ll dramatically increase recruiting and once USC gets back on their feet it’ll be a two maybe three team race for conference championship birth. But first you need to win.
