Podcast 54: Brandon Gurney and BYU Recruiting
In Episode 54, Adam chats with Brandon Gurney, the recruiting maven of the Deseret News. Adam and Brandon talk about the football class of 2012, what Tanner Mangum brings to the table, and who might immediately impact the team as a freshman. Brandon also dissects the QB situation for 2012 and 2013, and Adam tries to pin him down on the chances Jabari Parker joins BYU to play hoops. Matt then joins Adam to talk hoops, including what the win over Virginia Tech means, and they preview the St. Mary's game. They also discuss the major 2012 offseason football story lines. Finally, Adam talks with Rise & Shout superfan Justin Sweeney, mainly about hoops and his distaste for diet sodas. ZERO PERCENT chance Young or Detmer comes back
as quarterback coach.
They both have great lives going, why mess it up with the pressue and demands of QB coach. Their help and assistance as distinguished alumni will always be appreciated, but they will never take on a full time coaching position.
But, 100 percent chance Detmer would be a great QB coach. One year is all he needed to his QB to get a scholarship offer from Miami and make it to the Elite 11 camp (look it up Preston Dewey was there, didn’t finish in the top 11 but he was there competing).
I don't disagree...
but sometimes people leave comfort for a new challenge. But I think it’s a long shot, especially for Steve Young. Putting a persona that big into the coaching staff could be more trouble than it’s worth.
