Notes:
Utah series - Tom Holmoe said BYU and Utah are still working on getting future dates nailed down, both schools want to make it happen. In a following conference call, Holmoe said both teams want home-and-home, neither school wants to budge on that.
Hawaii series (and future conference affiliation hints?) - Holmoe said "Hawaii is a series we will keep whether or not we are in a conference."
WAC - "I don't think we'll have any WAC teams on the 2013 schedule other than Utah State."
Holmoe said BYU has been working on some "big fish" in scheduling for "many years," and they finallly have two teams/series nailed down that BYU fans will really like. BYU will announce those soon. In the conference call after, Holmoe said BYU still needs a couple games for 2013, but "why finish it off just to get it done?" Wants to get the best fit for each game. He also agreed with Bronco Mendenhall's assessment that 2013 with be the most difficult schedule in BYU football history.
Greg Wrubell pointed out that after last year's schedule was released, a trip to Louisiana Tech was dropped and the TCU game was added -- always some small chance that a game or two can change.
While no TV information was disclosed tonight, ESPN's Dave Brown did say at last year's media day that eight games in 2012 were already slated for ESPN.

So, what do y'all think?
Like October. November stinks, but what can you do? Next year will be amazing…not sure Riley Nelson can lead BYU to highest heights anyway, so it’s all good.

I really like it
Some really tough but winable games on the schedule.
Though your wrong. We aren’t playing the the Poinsettia Bowl. We have bigger dreams.
I said this in the LIVE thread but I'll repeat it here...
I LOVE the October schedule. I really do think Gary Andersen has USU on the rise and I look forward to that game. The Oregon St game is another BCS team coming into LES. I know there are those that scoff at the notion of playing lower-level BCS teams but for now, those are the teams that will jump at that the chance of being on ESPN so it is a good game in my opinion. I hope we can forge a good rivalry with Notre Dame. That will take many years, but I hope that becomes a game that is played on a yearly basis. I think the Georgia Tech will be a great one down in Atlanta. The ACC has not expanded its conference season like the B1G or the Pac, and I think that is a conference BYU can turn to to get quality games in the future (did anyone say Boston College…?).
I also like the September games. It looks like the Utah game will stay there permanently… so I think it should just be the first game of the season. The Rhoades Bake-n-Serve BYUTV bowl will be week 2 against the Wildcats of Weber St. Im glad this game will be in September and not October. I look forward to when the Boise St game is in October/November instead of September, to balance out the schedule more. Im glad the Hawaii series is here to stay long-term. I look forward to sitting in LES when the Cougars face the Pirate Cougars of Washington st on the first of September.
There are those who will complain about the November schedule, but like Tom said, USU will be the only WAC team on the 2013 schedule. Patience will be paid off.
All-in-all, I think it is a great schedule. I worry that the team will get tired out with no bye until the first week of November. I hope James Lark is ready to step in at a moments notice. By most accounts, he is good, but I have never really seen much from him. We shall see.

I agree with your assessments. People who complain are those who probably don’t understand how scheduling works in college football … probably makes me sound like a snob, but it’s true.

Something that got me thinking from kwlarson post
What would you think of the idea that the state of Utah would have a bowl game? I think it could work out. College football is a big part of the culture here. If Idaho could have one, why couldn’t we?
I think it would have to be something that arises out of need — like if a bunch of current bowls disappear. Whoever created the bowl would prob want to feel confident in an ability to bring it good teams (not two 6-6 teams) … It would probably work if they did it in Salt Lake.

I could see something...
along the lines of a “Ski Bowl” or “Snow Bowl” that the Utah Vistors bureau & the ski resorts could sponsor. And like you said, it would have to be in SLC.

It comes down to 3 games
The season will come down to 3 road games – Utah, Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech. We get WSU and Boise early enough that I think we can beat them and then the rest of the schedule is fairly soft. I think if we win one of those big three, I’ll call it a good year. I like our chances against Utah but at ND will be tough and facing that triple option with only a week of prep is a nightmare. I think 10-2 is about the best we can hope for next year, although 11-1 might get us to a BCS game if Nelson can whip up some of that magic of his.
As far as high hopes, I guess I’m a skeptic. I love Riley’s game, but have serious doubts about his ability against elite/near-elite opponents. But, I agree with your assessment on which games the season hinges.
I’m hoping Washington State is working out the kinks in their game — if not, BYU’s defense could be in trouble scheme-wise with limited scouting abilities. And I’m with you on Boise, hopefully they have to figure themselves out with a new QB and more new coaches … or maybe someone steps in like Kellen Moore and is just brilliant.

Nelson's "elite-ness"
Unless Nelson dramatically improves his ability to challenge defenses vertically, I think ND has the athletes to shut him down. I worry about GT simply because of the difficulty in defending the option with limited prep time. And of course Utah is always going to be a tough game, even though the Utes probably won’t be too much better overall than they were last year (not that they need to be to beat us, apparently). And then there is always the chance that Boise, WSU, or even OSU will be better than we expect. I think this will be an interesting season.
