A senior day farewell to Daniel Sorensen

George Frey

Daniel Sorensen has been making plays all over the field for BYU since his freshman year in 2010. Today we say goodbye to Daniel as he plays his final game in LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Ever since departing senior, Daniel Sorensen, stepped onto the field for BYU he has made an impact. Even as a freshman Sorensen saw action in 12 games and earned letterman honors for the Cougars. He has been making plays in BYU's secondary ever since.

One of those plays that I vividly remember in Sorensen's career came in his sophomore season versus Texas. The Longhorns quarterback, Garrett Gilbert, threw a pass that was broken up into the air by BYU defensive back, Corby Eason. On a full run Sorensen batted it up high into the air then had the body control to completely change directions and dive back to make the interception. That play (which comes at the 1:25 mark in the video below) remains one of the best interceptions I've seen a BYU player make.

His play in the secondary isn't the only place Sorensen has made his presence felt. The 6'2" 208 pound safety has been an ace on special teams for the Cougars making a lot of one-on-one tackles in the open field and downing punts inside the 10-yard line. Few BYU fans will forget Sorensen between-the legs save of a punt that was going to go into the endzone versus Georgia Tech this season.

On his career, Sorensen has recorded 187 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 8 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, a defensive touchdown, and a single sack. His play on the field has earned him the respect of some NFL Draft experts, who think he has a chance to join teammates Kyle Van Noy and Cody Hoffman in the NFL next season.

When Sorensen hangs up the white and blue jersey for the last time at the end of the season it will leave a big hole in the secondary that will need to be filled. As we say farewell on today's senior day, thank you Daniel for all you've done for the Cougars over the past four years and best of luck to you in the future.
