REPORT: 2016 commit Frank Jackson has re-opened his recruitment

4

Just a month after his father shot down reports that he had rescinded his commitment to BYU, 2016 commit Frank Jackson has allegedly re-opened his recruitment.

After watching Jackson play at the West Coast Elite All-Star Camp on Saturday, Frank Burlison of Burlison On Basketball wrote:

"Jackson, who recently re-opened his recruitment after "committing" to Brigham Young University a bit more than a year ago, has a reasonable opportunity to be rated right near the top – of not on the top, period – of all "shooting guards" or "combo guards" in this national class by the time he’s drilled his final jumper and banged on someone for the last time in an Lone Peak uniform some 16 months or so from now."

If Burlison is right (which isn't a guarantee), this can't be a positive development for Cougar fans. Jackson is an excellent player and key piece of coach Dave Rose's future plans for the program. He's also the type of kid Rose usually excels at landing. If he manages to slip away to a higher-profile school, there will be plenty of broken hearts in Provo.

This one is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

UPDATE: There may be hope on the horizon!

Associated Press freelance reporter John Coons tweeted that he found the Burlison report odd, saying that when he spoke with Jackson last week, Frank did not indicate that he had de-committed from BYU and seemed firmly committed to the Cougars.

Conflicting reports can be confusing, but Cougar fans should take some solace that a respected source like Coons doesn't think Burlison's scoop passes the smell test.
