2014 NFL Draft: Eathyn Manumaleuna signs with the New York Giants

Eathyn Manumaleuna becomes the second Cougar to official join the NFL ranks this year as he agrees to a free agent contract with the New York Giants.

Former BYU Defensive End Eathyn Manumaleuna has agreed to terms with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent.  Eathyn had a stellar career at BYU that started in 2007 as a freshman that played in all 13 games.  On the very last play of his freshman year, he blocked a field goal to preserve a win for BYU against UCLA in the Las Vegas Bowl.  With this play he will be forever remembered by Cougar fans.

After serving a two-year mission for the LDS Church he came back to Provo and continued his career as a Cougar.  He was a steadying influence to more than one good BYU defense and his leadership could never be questioned.  As a senior, he tore his ACL in the fourth game of the year and was lost for the season.  After the injury he took advantage of the time off from football as he was able to take a large role in the birth of his first son.  After receiving a medical redshirt, he came back better than ever and had the best season of his career in 2013.

One of the strengths that Manumaleuna brings to the NFL is his ability to play both nose tackle and defensive end.  This versatility will allow him to be utilized wherever the team needs him, and give him a better chance at getting on the field. It would be hard to say at this point that he will be a consistent starter in the league, but he could be a serviceable back-up to add depth.

We at Vanquish the Foe want to congratulate Eathyn on his jump to the NFL and look forward to seeing him play at the next level!
