2014 NFL Draft: Spencer Hadley signs with New Orleans

Spencer Hadley - USA TODAY Sports

Hadley opts to continue his career with the New Orleans Saints

After not drafting him in final rounds of the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints decided to sign Spencer Hadley to a free agent deal.  The linebacker born in Oberlin, Ohio and raised in Connell, Wa is coming off a disappointing season as he missed a number of games on the year.

Hadley started at BYU in 2008 where he played in 11 games and recorded 13 total tackles.  After serving a two year LDS mission in California, he came back to Provo and played in all 13 games during his sophomore and junior seasons.  His best season came as a junior where he recorded 55 tackles, 30 unassisted.  As a junior he also had nine tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

The Saints will be getting a hard working player that will put his body on the line for the team and will look for ways to make his presence known on the field.  He has a nose for the ball and enjoys the physical play.  The Saints will be getting an older rookie so his leash may not be as long as others.  He did have some off field issues at BYU but they shouldn't be concerning as it wouldn't have warranted a suspension without the BYU Honor Code.  Look for him to start with specials teams and work at finding his way on the field by impressing his coaches when called upon.
