Salt Lake Tribune reports Frank Jackson has officially decommitted from BYU

1

BYU fans got some unwelcome news on Friday night following their basketball team's season-opening win: Frank Jackson, a junior guard for Lone Peak High School and prized Cougar recruit, has reportedly decommited from the program — for real this time.

The Salt Lake Tribune's Tony Jones first reported the news on Twitter — adding that Jackson is still considering BYU, but that Duke, Arizona, Stanford, Arizona State and Utah are now also in the running for the star guard's services.

This is a gut-punch for Cougar fans. Jackson is a nationally ranked recruit and fantastic talent. He would add a significant presence to coach Dave Rose's already rich stable of incoming recruits over the next half-decade. BYU had big plans for him — and now it seems those may never come to fruition.

And yet, this shouldn't be a huge surprise. Rumors of Jackson wanting to explore all his options have been circulating for months. Once schools like Duke and Arizona got involved, Frank looking around became a near-certainty. And really, it's hard to blame him for wanting to test the waters — but that doesn't make his decommitment sting any less.

BYU is still in the running, and the program does have certain qualities that no other school can offer — so Frank Jackson may end up walking through that door after all. But Rose and his staff are going to have to outwork some of the best coaches in the country to make it happen.

Say your prayers. Pay your tithing. Cross your fingers.
