Paul Lasike rushed for 87 yards against the Texas Longhorns in last season's home opener, but he was third in rushing for BYU. Jamaal Williams was second in rushing at 183 yards. Although Taysom Hill only threw 129 yards, he led the team in rushing at 259 yards. No NCAA D-I quarterback has rushed for as many yards since Texas quarterback Vince Young in 2005 and no BYU quarterback has done so since Eldon Fortie in 1962. His 68-yard touchdown run was also a BYU record for longest run by a quarterback. Total, the Cougars rushed for 556 yards, with additional contributions coming from Adam Hine and Michael Alisa, which was a school record for BYU in rushing yards in a single game. BYU won 40-21.
