Know The Foe: Week 5 results from BYU opponents

Evan Habeeb-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

During basketball season, we gave you the West Coast Walkthrough. In football season, without the tethers of conference affiliation, we will instead take you around BYU's 2012 schedule to see how each team fares each week.

More ups and downs this week with some clear signs. First: the home schedule is much better than first thought, thanks to Oregon State and Utah State playing so well. The second: Georgia Tech is not as good as expected.

WASHINGTON STATE (2-3)
LOST 51-26 to #2 Oregon
Simply outmatched by the Ducks in Seattle, not much expected from the Cougars here.
Next week: at #14 Oregon State (3-0)
More: Visit Coug Center

WEBER STATE (0-5)
LOST to 37-13 to UC-Davis
The Wildcats continue to commit way too many turnovers to stay competitive, even despite outgaining UC-Davis.
Next week: Friday vs. #23 Cal Poly (4-0)

UTAH (2-2)
BYED
Next week: vs #13 USC (3-1)
More: read Block U

#25 BOISE STATE (3-1)
WON 32-29 over New Mexico
Up 25-0 at halftime, the Broncos weathered a fierce Lobos rally to escape Albuquerque with the win.
Next week: at Southern Miss (0-4)
More: read OBNUG

HAWAI'I (1-3)
LOST 47-0 to BYU
Youth Movement: Underclassmen fuel BYU's 47-0 rout of Hawaii
Recap: BYU Cougars run over Hawaii
Next week: at San Diego State (2-3)

UTAH STATE (4-1)
WON 35-13 over UNLV
Chuckie Keeton threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns, while Kerwynn Williams rushed for 113 yards and caught 147 more. The Aggies are looking great.
Next week: at BYU (3-2), Friday on ESPN

#14 OREGON STATE (3-0)
WON
38-35 at Arizona
Sean Mannion threw for 433 yards as the Beavers put forth a strong fourth quarter to claim the win. Storm Woods rushed for 161 yards, while Markus Wheaton and Brandin Cooks put on another show at receiver, pulling down 166 and 149 receiving yards each. With Washington State next week, BYU should be hosting a top-15 team in Provo in two weeks. A great showcase, and likely means that ESPN will pick up the game.
Next week: vs. Washington State (2-3)

#9 NOTRE DAME (4-0)

Next week: vs. Miami (4-1) at Soldier Field

WON 12-0 at Navy
A road win is a road win, especially when you are SJSU. A surprise team so far this year.
Next week: BYE

NEW MEXICO STATE (1-4)
LOST 35-14 to UTSA
NMSU still has defensive problems, and can now say they were the first non-provisional FBS opponent that UTSA beat in its program's beginnings.

This Week: 4-6
Overall: 26-28 (.481)
FBS Only: 26-23 (.531)
