Report: Aaron Roderick offered QB coach position?

Russ Isabella-US PRESSWIRE

Doman set to leave BYU after 8 seasons?

According to Kevin Graham of 1320 KFAN, Utah wide receivers coach Aaron Roderick has been offered the position of BYU quarterbacks coach, indicating Brandon Doman has declined the position. Brandon Doman will leave BYU after eight seasons as a coach.

Roderick has also been offered the Wisconsin wide receivers coach position. The former BYU receiver has been the wide receivers coach at Utah since 2005. He also served as co-offensive coordinator there in 2010, and is said to have been instrumental as passing game coordinator in 2012, helping quarterbacks as Brian Johnson became offensive coordinator.

Here is Kevin Graham's write-up on the Roderick offer.

But reports are conflicting. Both Bill Riley (of ESPN 700 in SLC) and Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune are reporting skepticism of such an offer.

Doman was replaced as offensive coordinator on January 4 by Robert Anae and was encouraged to remain on the staff as quarterbacks coach by Anae and Bronco Mendenhall. But it appears Doman's heart might not be able to take a demotion to remain at his alma mater.

Doman served as QB coach under Anae from 2005-2010, helping coach John Beck and Max Hall to career seasons leading the BYU offense. After Anae decided to leave the staff following the 2010 season, Doman added offensive coordinator duties in 2011-2012.

As a player, Doman threw for 4,354 yards and 35 touchdowns at BYU from 1998-2001, holding a career record of 14-2 as a starter.

Despite the struggles in his two seasons at the helm of the offense, I still believe Doman has it in him to be a good offensive coordinator. If the circumstances and timing just didn't work out at BYU, I hope he gets another chance somewhere.
