Over a month after first being attached to the position, it appears Jason Beck will be named BYU's quarterbacks coach as the new offensive staff under Robert Anae nears completion.

Beck is a former BYU quarterback who has six years of college coaching experience (if counting graduate assistant positions). He spent two years as a graduate assistant (2007 at BYU under Bronco and Anae, then at LSU under offensive coordinator Gary Crowton in 2008.) From 2009-2011, Beck served as quarterbacks coach at Weber State under head coach Ron McBride.

Most recently, Beck was offensive coordinator for Simon Fraser University in 2012, the Division II school in British Columbia. Simon Fraser's offense ranked 31st in DII at 440 yards per game, and the passing game averaged 297 yards per contest.

As a player, Beck started just one game in his BYU career in 2006 against Utah State (a 38-0 win, 20-28-305-1-1). He also played in a large portion of a road game in 2004 at Stanford (a 37-10 loss, 23-46-232-0-3). Before transferring to BYU, he was an accomplished junior college quarterback at College of the Canyons.

Beck replaces Brandon Doman as the QB coach, who held the position from 2005-2012.

One opening -- wide receivers coach -- remains on the offensive staff, and we expect current Southern Utah offensive coordinator and former BYU assistant Steve Clark to be named to that position.
