BYU drops to 12th in ESPN/USA Today Poll

In the latest ESPN/USA Today Poll the Cougars fell from 10th to 12th due to their four-point loss in Albuquerque on Wednesday.  However, the Cougars maintained their No. 12 ranking in the AP Poll.  A two-spot drop in one poll isn't too disappointing and if anything is better than expected.

Pollsters clearly recognize that the Cougars were competitive until the end against New Mexico and that winning in The Pit against a ranked Lobos team is an incredibly difficult task.  Andy Katz (formerly of the Albuquerque Journal) said as much shortly after the Cougar's second loss.

The Lobos meanwhile shot up from 23rd to 15th in the AP Poll and (from 28th) to 23rd in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. Also of note was UNLV's 16 votes in the AP Poll and 11 in the other.  You can be sure that a win over the Cougars on Saturday would launch the Rebels into the Top 25.
