BYU Hosts Denver in WNIT

After a disappointing loss to Utah, by 1 point on a buzzer beater, in the MWC finals the BYU Women's basketball team was regulated to the WNIT. They received an automatic bid because they won the MWC regular season, much like men's basketball. Unlike the men's NIT, participating teams get to host games throughout the whole tournament, not just till the semi-finals. Also there are 64 teams in the WNIT.

BYU (23-8) will be hosting Denver (19-11) in the first round of this tournament. This is the second straight year Coach Jeff Judkins has the Cougars in the tournament. Last year the team advanced to the quarterfinals where they lost to eventual champion Cal Berkeley.

"We're excited to play in the postseason," Jeff Judkins said. "I know our team is happy to continue playing and they want to have success."

TCU and Wyoming will join BYU as the MWC representatives in the WNIT but as at-large candidates instead of with an auto bid. All three teams are hosting first round matchups.

Play starts Thursday and the schedule will be announced later today.
