Sorry we haven't been able to get posts out this past week. We've all been busy with school work. I know I had mid-terms this week and was just swamped. But here's an update on the Awards Jimmer has won to satiate your BYU Cougars appetite.
Since my last post Jimmer has been the recipient of several awards, including one of the most prestigious of them. He has won the Adolph Rupp Trophy, the AP National Player of the Year, and the Naismith Award.
The Adolph Rupp Trophy is given to the top player in DI college basketball. The winner is voted on by a panel of sportswriters, coaches, and sports administrators. It is given by the Commonwealth Athletic Club of Kentucky. Here's a list of it's many winners via Wikipedia. There are some pretty big names on there.
The big one would be the Naismith Award given to the National Player of the Year. Jimmer was chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's National Voting Academy. This is made up of basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from all over the country. And fan voting also accounted for 25% of the results. Here's the Naismith's Wikipedia page with it's winners.
"Jimmer has put in the time and hard work to make himself the player he is today and is as committed to winning as anyone I've ever coached," said BYU coach Dave Rose. "Jimmer truly is a great player, a great teammate and an even better person and is very deserving of this award."
There is one more award Jimmer is still in the running for, and that is the all mighty Wooden Award. From woodenaward.com:
The Player of the Year and All-American Team members are selected each year by a large panel of voters. Voters are sports writers or sportscasters who collectively represent each of the 50 states, with the number of voters from each state dependent on the state’s population.
The award winner will be announced on Friday, April 8th at 7pm eastern time. It will be streamed live here. Let's all pray for the best!
