Tracking The Cougars: John Beck Edition

Sorry for not doing one yesterday, I was pretty busy all day. So here are your links.

Former BYU quarterback John Beck is vying for the starting position as the Washington Redskins quarterback. We all remember Beck from the 2006 "Harline is still open" play, beating the Utes on a last second touchdown pass. Well now he's looking for a chance to make similar memories for the Redskins.

It is being questioned whether offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, son of head coach Mike Shanahan, has been calling the shots at QB since former Quarterback Donovan McNabb's ouster. The younger Shanahan reportedly likes Beck, a lot. In fact, many of the coaches and players do.

But that doesn't come as much of a surprise. Because of his attitude he's the best quarterback in the league right now. He also helped organize the player only practices and even considered filming them.

From these quotes it seems Beck is the better man for the job. At least the better leader. Along with helping organize the minicamp Beck reached out to rookies, giving them play-books and introducing them to the Redskins. But without actual coaches practices are harder.

Here's an interesting interview with Wyoming coach Dave Christensen. He says the MWC will continue to be strong with the departures of BYU, TCU, and Utah and the additions of Boise State, Fresno, Nevada and Hawaii. He also says there will be more parity. My interpretation, the MWC took a hit.
