Volleyball Sweeps #7 Penn State, Gets #3 Seed in MPSF Tournament

The BYU men's volleyball team rose up with a big performance on senior night, sweeping #7 Penn State (25-23, 25-22, 25-17) in front of an energetic crowd of 3,845 on Saturday night. Senior Quentin Smith had a few huge blocks down the stretch of the second set, leading the Cougars with five blocks on the night.

Taylor Sander had 20 kills to help BYU to the sweep the day after beating Penn State in four sets. The two wins over the EIVA champs boosts BYU's at-large case for the national tournament if needed. The Cougars finish the season with a 23-6 record.

While BYU was not involved in MPSF play, others in the conference played matches that determined BYU's seeding for the MPSF tournament. Unfortunately for the Cougars, both USC and Stanford won, giving USC the top seed and right to home court advantage throughout the tournament.

This means BYU will be the #3 seed, hosting #6 Long Beach State on Saturday, April 21. The match starts at 7:00 pm MT and will air on BYUtv. BYU faced LBSU twice on the road earlier in the season, sweeping the first match and losing the second in five sets.
