BYU Baseball Hosts Utah, Prepares for Heart of WCC Schedule

BYU baseball has returned home after taking three games in a four-game set at Seattle University over the weekend. The Cougars will host Utah tomorrow night at 6:00 pm MT on BYUtv in the final game against the Utes before jumping into the glut of the West Coast Conference schedule. The Diamond Cougars are currently tied for second place in the conference.

The Cougars (17-13) took two games earlier this month from Utah (9-25) at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake by the scores of 9-8 and 9-6. Tomorrow night, Chris Capper (3-4, 2.75 ERA) takes the bump as BYU tries to claim a sweep over its biggest rival. The two wins earlier in the season clinched the three baseball points for BYU in the Deseret First Duel, also clinching the overall Duel for BYU with a tally of 31-16. Ben Mordini (0-4, 9.61 ERA) gets the start for the Utes.

Freshman shortstop Tanner Chauncey has keyed BYU's success offensively, leading the team with a .337 average from the lead-off spot. Sophomore star Jaycob Brugman leads the team in RBI with 19.

After tomorrow night's contest, BYU will have 18 games remaining on the year, 15 of which will be conference matchups. Ten of those games will also be at home -- a nice change for fans hoping to see BYU at Miller Park, as the Cougars have played just five of their already-completed 30 games at home. Each home game remaining will also air on BYUtv. (And don't miss an easy road-game opportunity on May 1st in Orem against Utah Valley.)
