WCC hoops power rankings: week 1

The college basketball season is in full swing and the West Coast Conference is off to a strong start. We rank every team from one to ten based on each team's talent and performance.

The West Coast Conference has gotten off to a scorching hot start in men's basketball this season. The WCC's teams are 22-1 so far on the young season

We polled our writers here at Vanquish the Foe as well as writers from Mid-Major Madness and Slipper Still Fits to introduce a new feature here at Vanquish the Foe -- the weekly WCC Hoops Power Rankings.

The way the power rankings work is quite simple. We asked all the writers mentioned to fill out a ballot ranking WCC teams from first down to tenth. Vote totals were assigned to each ranking slot (1st = 10 votes, 2nd = 9 votes, 3rd = 8 votes, and you get the picture). Teams were then ranked in our overall power ranking in order of the number of total votes they received.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs dominated our week 1, grabbing all 12 first place votes. The 15th-ranked Bulldogs will look to continue their proverbial dominance a top the WCC this season and so far they are off to a good start. The Bulldogs are 2-0 on the season with convincing wins over Bryant and Colorado State.

The only school's close to challenging Gonzaga for that number one spot are BYU and Saint Mary's. Both the Cougars and the Gaels are also off to 2-0 starts. BYU's backcourt of Matt Carlino, Tyler Haws, and Kyle Collinsworth has been very impressive in wins over Weber State and Stanford. Saint Mary's took down Louisiana Tech in its opener last Friday and followed that up by crushing Akron yesterday.
