Another exciting weekend for BYU sports!

Let your excitement for the Fight Hunger Bowl carry over into support for BYU's other teams active this weekend.

BYU had two huge games this weekend with the football team playing Washington last night in the Fight Hunger Bowl and the basketball team starting conference play against Loyola Marymount today.

Outside of the big two, the women's basketball team also opens conference play against LMU at home in the Marriott Center. The one loss women's team, led by Jennifer Hamson, looks to enter conference play strong, and getting a win over 3-8 LMU is a pretty sure thing for them. The game is on Saturday and starts at 2:00 PM, it will be broadcast live on BYUtv and

The women's basketball team is coming off a big 84-74 win against in-state rival Utah State last Saturday and looks to start the conference schedule with a bang.  The Lady Cougars were again led by seniors Jennifer Hamson and Kim Beeston who combined for 46 of the teams 84 points. Hamson added 12 rebounds to her 24 points while Beeston hit 5-9 from the 3-point range in route to 22 points.  Junior Ashley Garfield supplemented the seniors with a seven assist and 15 rebound performance.  The Cougars held the lead for most of the game but the Aggies were able to tie the game at 37 with just over a minute left in the first half.  USU ended up going into the locker room down 46-41 after Makenzi Morrison hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds.  USU came out of the half shooting and tied the game again at 47, going on a 6-1 run to start the half.  BYU then went on their own run with a 10-1 run that gave them a nine point lead.  However, the Aggies continued to fight and would not go away.  After the Cougars allowed the Aggies to go on a 9-3 run, cutting the lead to three, the Cougars pulled away at the end giving them the 10 point victory.

The other thing to be excited about this weekend is the official start of BYU men's volleyball. The Cougars play host to the Wesmen of the University of Winnipeg for the first game of the season. The Wesmen are halfway through their season and have accumulated a record of 8-10 so far. The Cougars are looking to a positive start to the season and being able to maintain their #3 national ranking. The two will face off twice, playing both Friday and Saturday night in the Smith Field House, both matches start at 7PM.

Whether you're a fan of football, basketball, volleyball, or all sports, there should be some BYU action this weekend for you to enjoy. For those of you in Provo we'd like to encourage you to get out and support our home teams this weekend, GO COUGARS!!
