BYU not ranked in preseason AP Poll

In what is probably not a surprise, BYU missed the top 25 cut in the initial preseason AP poll, although some of their opponents did not.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The AP released their top 25 preseason poll, and sadly, BYU missed the cut.  It looks as though their schedule will give them plenty of chances to prove they belong though, as BYU has four foes on the schedule already ranked (Notre Dame, Texas, Boise State and Wisconsin). BYU also plays Utah State and Georgia Tech, two teams who received multiple votes. BYU only got a single AP vote, but hey, that's more than Utah got.

BYU would be ranked #43 by the AP poll, counting down from "also receiving votes"

Alabama was ranked number one, in a move that should surprise exactly nobody. Ohio State and Georgia each pulled a single first place vote, while Alabama grabbed 58. Roll Tide, indeed.

The full list can be found here, or pasted below. What do you think? My gut is that BYU will have plenty of chances to prove they belong, and if Taysom Hill is efficient and their defense plays near their lofty expectations despite having a MASH unit for a secondary, this squad will be recognized as a top 20, top 16 team fairly quickly. If not, it's probably going to spend the season on the fringes of also receiving votes. I can't complain about being underrated now, but maybe you think differently.

Is BYU underranked?  Overranked? Let us know in the comments below.
