Today Brigham Young University announced a Home-and-Home series with the Spartans of San Jose State University. The first game will be played in San Jose, CA. on November 7th, 2015 with the return date at Lavell Edwards Stadium on Oct. 28, 2017.
These meetings will be the 17th and 18th meetings between the schools dating back to 1946. In the most recent meeting, 2012, the Spartans beat the Cougars in San Jose by a score of 20-14. This game came down to the wire with Riley Nelson losing a fumble, just outside the Spartan 20, with 1:20 left on the clock. The Spartans ended the season 11-2 and finished 21st in both the major polls.
The Spartans lead this series 10-6. The Spartans are recent additions to the Mountain West Conference and have played at Spartan Stadium, which seats 30,456, since 1993. Previously a member of the Western Athletic Conference, starting in 1996, San Jose State is a program on the rise. Game times and broadcasting plans have yet to be announced.
