WEEK 1 UPDATE
Welcome to the longest 24 hours of the year.
Football did make its triumphant return last night (GREAT SCOTT!), but the Loyal White and Blue still don't kick off their season until tomorrow at 1:30 pm MDT ... or to be more precise ... in 24 hours and 15 minutes.
Instead of suffering through today watching the clock tick away, here's some highlights from BYU's 2012 campaign to hold you over until tomorrow:
Did that help? Good. I hoped it would.
While we're here, let's run through a quick injury update before the Cougars clash with the Cavs tomorrow:
Cornerbacks
During Wednesday's defensive team media session, defensive coordinator Nick Howell confirmed Robertson Daniel will start at field corner against Virginia. A committee of players will fill in at boundary corner including Skye PoVey, Mike Hague, and Dallin Leavitt.
Speaking of Hague, head coach Bronco Mendenhall revealed during Wednesday's "BYU Football with Bronco Mendenhall Show" that Hague is still a little dinged-up after tweaking his hamstring in practice. Nevertheless, he confirmed Hague should be good to play come Saturday.
Peoples Still Not Ready
Defensive lineman JonRyheem Peoples will not play against Virginia after suffering a concussion earlier in the week. However, Mendenhall added Peoples has been cleared to participate in practices and team activities and is expected to be available next week when the Texas Longhorns visit Provo.
The Final Countdown
Every season arrives with excitement but also with uncertainty, especially when injuries are in the mix.
How will all the off-season bumps and bruises affect BYU? And how will the new replacements respond?
I guess we'll know soon ... in 24 hours ... and now only 9 minutes.
