LSU no match for the 6th ranked Cougars.

The Cougars went into Baton Rouge and beat LSU 4-2 to move their record to 3-0. With 2 goals in each half the Cougars put the Tigers away with goals from four different players.

BYU's 6th ranked women's soccer team traveled to Baton Rouge on Monday and walked out with a win over the Tigers of LSU.

LSU started off the scoring with a shot inside the 6 yard box by Fernanda Pina in the 20th minute.  The cross pass by Alex Arlitt received the assist, putting the Tigers up 1-0.  Three minutes later the Cougars tied up the score at one with a rebound shot by Colett Jepson Smith.  Michelle Murphy was awarded the assist after the initial shot was blocked by the Tigers Goalkeeper Megan Kinnerman.

Summer Clarke put the Tigers back up 2-1 with a left-footed goal from 12 yards out in the 32nd minute.  Addie Eggleston and Emma Fletcher each recorded an assist on the play.  With 11 minutes before the half, Ashley Hatch tied up the game again with a 6 yard shot on the run.  The teams would go into the half tied at 2.

The second half belonged to the Cougars as they took their first lead in the 68th minute when Rachel Manning knocked a shot off the left post on a corner kick.  Elena Medeiros received the assist that put the Cougars up 3-2.  The Cougars finished the scoring in the 82nd minute when Paige Hunt found the net with a cross pass from Sarah Chambers.  BYU finished the game with a shot on goal advantage of 10-4 over the Tigers.

With a final score of 4-2 the women continued their undefeated season at 3-0.  LSU dropped to 3-1-1.

BYU comes home for a rivalry match against Utah on Friday, September 6th.  The game will be at 7 pm MST and will be broadcast on BYUtv.
