BYU sports links: 2014 projections, Mika's injury, roster moves and more

We dig into the WAY too early 2014 Top 25 lists, recruiting updates, WCC news and more with this morning's news

Chris Nicoll-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning! Slower news day today.

Now that the 2013 college football season is officially over (MISS U ALREADY), we have nothing left to do but recklessly speculate on the 2014 season. The National Football Post has one of the WAY TOO EARLY Top 25 lists prepared, and has BYU *just* outside the Top 25, at #27, behind Clemson and Michigan.

The Cougars have a much more manageable schedule heading into next season (it's possible only Texas and UCF start the season ranked), so if they're able to find efficiency on offense, getting enough wins to crack the Top 25 is not an unreasonable goal.

Speaking of UCF, that game looks a little more manageable now, as Joe Schad of ESPN is reporting that both QB Blake Bortles (BORTLE KOMBAAAAAT) and RB Storm Johnson will be taking their talents to the NFL.

On the basketball front, BYU's Eric Mika is listed as "day to day" with a bruised hip, but all x-rays were negative. If Mika plays, it's reasonable to expect he won't be 100% in BYU's next game against Pepperdine.

Finally, two more basketball players have been added to the roster. Big guys Jamal Aytes and Isaac Neilson have been added, per Greg Wrubell, although neither player is eligible to see playing next this season. Neilson can play starting next season, Jamal Aytes will be an option after Fall Semester.

Stay warm out there!
