These crazy BYU fans are having a blast
Looking for some people to interview for an article during the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational, I happened upon the Christiansen and Burrup families from Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were waiting in line outside the Lahaina Civic Center before the SDSU game. Little did I know they’d end up right behind the basket, enthusiastically disrupting opponents at the line.
"We’ve been looking forward to this for a year," Jennifer Christiansen said.
The two families have taken advantage of their week long trip, enjoying many of the sights on the popular Road to Hana, Haleakala, and the beaches of Weileia.
But they primarily came to support BYU.
The kids in the group I talked to, Ty, Taylor, and Cole Christiansen, along with Sydney, Bailey, and Nicholas Burrup, all said without hesitation their favorite player was Tyler Haws.
"We believe in the boys, especially our shooters," Christiansen said. "We certainly think we can take SDSU."
Their loyalty and enthusiasm hasn't gone unnoticed. They've made it on ESPN's broadcasts and have been noticed in the arena. BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmoe tweeted the above picture of them during BYU's second game in the Maui Invitational.
Watch these superfans and the BYU Cougars Wednesday against Purdue at 3 p.m. Mountain Time on ESPN 2.
