Cougar Kickoff Countdown: 45 Days

#45 Harvey Unga rushed for more yards than anyone else at BYU.

Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

My favorite moment as a BYU fan came on October 11, 2008. In an unmemorable game the Cougars beat the New Mexico Lobos 21-3 in Provo, UT. After the game my family and I dined at the local Carl's Jr. celebrating my birthday. As we ate our burgers Harvey Unga and his then fiancé, Keilani Moeaki walked in and sat next to us.

Someone else ordered for them and while they waited food we started conversation with them. We didn't make a big deal about it and both Harvey and Keilani were cordial. When my family busted out a cake and sang Happy Birthday to me Harvey joined in just as loud as anyone else in my party. I told him thanks and offered them cake, but they had to go. On his way out the door someone else loudly asked, "Hey! Are you Harvey Unga?" Harvey promptly replied, "No bro, that's my cousin." The other fan was disappointed, we laughed, and Harvey made an inconspicuous exit.

Harvey is the career rushing yards leader at BYU with 3,455 yards, which is all the more impressive taking into consideration that Unga did that by the end of his junior year. He was selected by the Chicago Bears in the 2010 supplemental draft.
