In a surprise announcement, Akile Davis committed today to play football for the BYU Cougars. Davis is a 6'1 186 lb. wide receiver out of DeSoto, Texas.  According to 247sports he is a three star recruit that is listed as a top 200 receiver in the country.  Along with BYU he was recruited by Bowling Green, Indiana, Maryland, North Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, and San Diego State among others.

Davis seems to have soft hands and enough speed to threaten down field.  He was recruited heavily by Guy Holliday and could thrive in the Cougar offense.  Davis will be part of the Cougars 2015 class and is the first receiver to commit to the Cougars, although there are a number of other offers out.  The Cougars have a young group of wide receivers, but given a year to learn the system and adjust to the game, the Cougars could utilize him in their four and five receiver sets starting in 2016.  If he breaks into the line-up early, he could have a long future with the Cougars, building up the quality and depth of the BYU roster.  To see what he brings, take a look at the highlights from MaxPreps and look for #8!
