On Saturday night the Texas public address announcers made sure that the fans knew a storm was coming.  What he failed to mention was that it was in the form of BYU.  Before the lighting, thunder and torrential rain came down in Austin, the Cougars took the Longhorns on a whirlwind of a game that demanded national attention.  This happened in a variety of forms, but today it was shown in the polls that came out.

Below are the three polls that people tend to talk about and who garner the most attention.  If you notice in the AP poll, the Cougars jumped into the Top 25.  This is a huge jump for the Cougars as the AP is the most respected of the three.  Not only do the Cougars make it into the rankings for the first time this year, they jumped up 10 spots to do it.  Last week they were receiving votes and fell into the 35th spot.  Not too often does the AP give a jump like that.

The Coaches poll was a bit less kind to the Cougars as they moved up from 33rd to 27th, just outside the poll and only four points behind Louisville.  Of course the poll loses a bit of steam when they rank Ohio State in front of Virginia Tech after the Hokies beat them the night before.

Also notice one other thing...Sagarin ratings have BYU at 16 and future opponent UCF at 22.  These are all interesting notes but it means nothing if it isn't followed up.  BYU will face Houston on a short week, look for them to move up again if they win, but lose all momentum if they lay an egg.  What do you think of the rankings?
