Thursday night marks the 3rd meeting between Weber State and BYU. Weber State came away with two victories, although one of the victories goes down in the American Collegiate Hockey Association books as a draw.
In BYU's first game of the season, Weber State ran away with a 9-4 decision. The second game was a much different story.
Playing for 3rd place in the Wasatch Cup, BYU led 3-2 late in the 3rd period when with 3:13 left, Weber State's Dax Hobbs beat BYU goalie Scott Mehr top shelf to equalize and force overtime. In OT, the Wildcats and Cougars, despite playing 4 on 4 hockey couldn't break the tie. In ACHA rules, this means the game is recorded as a draw. However, the teams played on to determine a winner. The game winning goal came in double overtime as the Wildcats Matt Broman scored on the power play to win 4-3.
This is the final home game of the season for the Cougars. Marking the last time for Josh Patrick to don the oval Y on his chest. Josh has been a part of the program for several years and has been a positive influence in the locker room and on the ice.
