Offensive lineman De'ondre Wesley has signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Wesley played for two years with the BYU Cougars after first playing at Diablo Valley Junior College. Wesley played in 25 of the 26 possible games with the Cougars and started in 22 of them.
Wesley was an anchor on a line that helped the BYU offense average over 181 yards rushing and 278 yards passing per game. The offense also averaged over 37 points per game, the most a BYU offense has put up since 2001.
Wesley had a good vertical and broad jump at his Pro Day, but his bench press was disappointing (via nfldraftscout.com):
40-yard dash - 5.25 seconds
225 lb bench - 18 reps
Vertical jump - 31 inches
Broad jump - 115 inches
20-yard shuttle - 4.65 seconds
3-cone drill - 7.73 seconds
Wesley will have his work cut out for him as he tries to stick with the Ravens, but with a strong work ethic and a few breaks he could find himself on a practice squad at the start of the year. Keep an eye on Wesley as he fights for the roster spot as a little refining of his skills could land him a solid career in the pros.
