Just as one Kaufusi departs from the football program, BYU adds another.
Jackson Kaufusi, an outside linebacker out of Brighton High School in Utah, announced his commitment to BYU on Twitter late Tuesday night. Jackson picked the Cougars over other offers from Cal, Utah and Washington State.

The 6-1, 200 lbs linebacker was listed as a 3 star recruit according to 247Sports.com. The recruiting site also gave Kaufusi a composite score of 0.82 and ranked him as the 25th best recruit in the state of Utah.
Even though Kaufusi is a name synonymous with BYU thanks to Steve (coach) Bronson (defensive beast) and Corbin (dunks the basketball), the Cougars were considered to have an outside shot at landing Jackson. His father Jeff and five of his uncles played football for the Utes leaving many to believe that Jackson would end up at Utah. When Kaufusi listed out his top three schools, the Cougars didn't make the cut.
It probably helped that Jackson's older brother Isaiah will be playing for BYU once he returns home from his mission (he was a three start recruit in the 2014 class). Jackson, like his brother, will also be serving a two year mission before enrolling at BYU.
