Cougs on Cougs: Get to know BYU Football Long Snapper Matt Foley

A busy week for football and basketball means a busy week for Cougs on Cougs. This week’s jam-packed show features lots of Couch Coaching, a Perfect Fan segment and more.

Was last week not one of the greatest of the year for BYU fans? Three wins for basketball and one for football — many games to be attended, much fun to be had. This week mirrors last with three basketball games (the first of which, BYU Hoops won against Saint Louis Monday) and our home finale for football coming up Saturday against Utah State. Jam-packed Cougar sports weeks mean jam-packed Cougars on Cougars, with Mary’s husband Jordan filling in as co-host for Jess. In the video embedded above, we’ve got all sorts of stuff going on — summary as follows.

Football came away with a 51-9 win over UMass Saturday. Jess is up in Boise for Thanksgiving (hence the unfamiliar co-host) along with her brother Garrett and they sat down to talk about what went wrong and what went right in Coaching from the Couch. Coach Schroath didn’t think BYU was getting enough pressure on the QB, Coach Tyler wasn’t impressed with the slow first half... Both WERE impressed with KJ Hall (us, too) and second-half special teams. Plus, Coach Schroath gives some input on the basketball team. He thinks one player’s hair is holding him back from his true potential... Watch the video to hear all of their hot takes.

Next for basketball Couch Coaching, Mary and Jordan come in clutch with their takes on BYU’s 92-62 win over Saint Louis in the MGM Grand Main Event Tournament Monday (How about that YouTube broadcast and announcer? SIWSH!). They touch on BYU’s impressive front court performance, one guard who fouled out pretty early, another who found a big way to contribute — with 12 rebounds, plus more in the video. BYU plays Valparaiso in the championship game on Wednesday at 10 p.m. MST on ESPN2. Get a nap in! Valparaiso ended BYU’s NIT run last year, so this will be a chance for vengeance.

Phew. After all that Couch Coaching, it’s time to sit down with Suzanne and Ken Foley, parents of our Long Snapper, Matt Foley. It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Perfect Fan segment but this one is worth the wait. Suzanne and Ken share why they’re glad Matt chose BYU over any other school, tell us what (and where) his favorite dinner is, share a couple of funny stories about Matt, explain how he came to be a long snapper (not your average little kid’s dream) plus much more. You don’t want to miss this interview, filmed on location at the UMass tailgate and peppered throughout with cute pictures of Matt.

Did you know that Matt’s been long snapping since he was 12?

Finally, Mary and Jordan wrap it all up with Talk of the Town, a look across BYU’s social mediasphere. One BYU Football player has already started listening to Christmas music, but it’s an artist we approve of, so we’ll let it slide. This time. #SaveThanksgiving. In other news, Jamaal Williams is headed to the Senior Bowl in a couple of months, Harvey Langi has put on quite a few pounds since he last played running back and we found out what the TJ in TJ Haws stands for. Did you guess correctly in our Twitter poll? Watch the show to find out which fourth generation family name got passed down to The Ginger Mamba. Happy Thanksgiving!
