Provo, Utah — BYU beat Weber State 77-66 Wednesday night in Provo behind a big night from Eric Mika. The Sophomore center continued his dominating start to the season, punishing Weber State inside the paint with 26 points and 10 boards. The Cougars struggled once again from behind the arc (3-11, 27%), but used its size advantage to give the Wildcats problems down low most of the night.
The win moves BYU to 6-3 on the year, and sets up a pivotal two-game stretch vs Colorado and Illinois. BYU welcomes Colorado (7-2) to the Marriott Center Saturday night (8pm MST, ESPN2). The Buffaloes are coming off a huge win over 13th ranked Xavier.
The following Saturday has the Cougars traveling to Chicago to face off against the Fighting Illini. BYU’s at-large hopes may rest on winning those games, as they are the last two marquee games before Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga.
