Notre Dame TE Tyler Luatua to transfer to BYU

The Cougars are picking up another former blue chip recruit

It won't show up on the recruiting rankings score sheet, but the Cougars added another potentially big name today, as Notre Dame tight end Tyler Luatua will transfer to BYU, per his Twitter account. There had been chatter that BYU was the likely destination earlier last week.

The 6'2, 250 pound tight end was a major recruit in the class of 2014, earning offers from Alabama, Ohio State, USC, and other power programs, including BYU. He was a composite four-star recruit, but did not generate much offensive production during his tenure at Notre Dame. He has yet to catch a pass in game action.

Per NCAA rules, Luatua will have to sit out the 2016 season, but after spending a season practicing with the team and learning BYU's system, he could represent a significant talent upgrade at a position that has been a little bit underused in BYU offenses over the last few seasons, and one reported to be a focus of offensive coordinator Ty Detmer.
