Virginia and BYU have announced changes to their upcoming series. The first game was originally scheduled for 2019 at Virginia but will instead be moved to 2021 and will be played in Provo. You can find the official release here. The 2023 game will be played in Charlottesville. in addition, the two schools have added another game to be played in 2025 in Provo that was not scheduled previously. Virginia leads the series 3-2 and it looks like the Cougars will have their chance to change that.
BYU's 2019 schedule still looks pretty stacked. It currently includes home games against Utah, USC, Boise State and Washington, along with a trip to Washington State. There's also still plenty of time to find a game comparable to UVA that year.
Now, I am old enough to remember all the way back on December 6th, 2015 when Bronco said this:
"I have feelings for the players and this program – they’re not going away," Mendenhall said at his BYU press conference. "They’re not going away in four years. I would just assume that game would be moved back to when I’m done coaching whenever that would be. I don’t want to play BYU and I don’t know how I’d handle it. If it’s up to me, I don’t want that to happen because this is the place that shaped and had such an influence on my life that I don’t see how that could happen and I hope it doesn’t."
Yeah... about that. Did Bronco get overruled? Is he predicting the future and assuming he won't be at Virginia by 2021? How will BYU fans greet him if he's still there? Let the speculation begin!
