Corbin Kaufusi to play both football and basketball for BYU in 2017

That's a TALL football player.

Today, Dave Rose announced that Corbin Kaufusi will play both football and basketball in 2016-17.

Corbin Kaufusi is 6-foot-10 and 225-pounds. Corbin famously first committed to BYU as a football player out of Timpview High School. He then grew several inches while on his mission and became a BYU basketball player upon his return.

Now, after solely focusing on basketball as a freshman and sophomore, Kaufusi's junior year will see his athletic attentions split between the court and the gridiron.

The news was released by BYU today:

Devotees may remember that during the 2014 BYU basketball preseason Boomshakalaka event, Corbin performed in the dunk contest with a helmet and pads. You can see that in the video below, starting at 1:07:

Perhaps the most anticipated benefit for Corbin Kaufusi on the gridiron wearing pads would be on special teams. How many kicks could the big man block?

Corbin's brother Bronson also played both basketball and football at BYU in 2012.
