After the BYU Cougars finished up a 26-3 campaign on the volleyball court by winning the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation (MPSF) on Saturday night, the Cougars earned the number one seed in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament next week. With the top seed the Cougars earned a bye into the semifinals and will start of their tournament run on Thursday May 5th at 4pm MST.
The Cougars know that they will face off against either the 4th seeded Long Beach State or 5th seeded Erskine. The Cougars faced the Long Beach State twice in the regular season and split the series. If the 49ers make it past Erskine, they will come in to the game confident as they have been one of only three teams to hand the Cougars a loss. However, if the Cougars end up facing Erskine, it will be against a team they never played before.
The second seed in the tournament was given to UCLA, who lost to BYU in the MPSF finals, and went 0-3 against the Cougars for the year. On this side of the bracket the Cougars beat George Mason three games to one in January but hasn't played Ohio State this year. All games will be shown live on NCAA.com and the championship game will be shown on ESPN2 on Saturday, May 7th at 6pm MST. All games will be played at the Penn State campus.
