2016 NFL Draft: BYU WR Terenn Houk invited to tryout with the Chicago Bears

Terenn Houk has a new home with the Chicago Bears and now it is time to wait and see if it will work out.

BYU TE Terenn Houk has been invited to tryout with the Chicago Bears according to Jay Drew of the Salt Lake Tribune.

The 6-foot-5, 255 pound tight end will be missed at BYU but it is never a negative for the program to have another player make it into the NFL ranks.

Terenn posted a solid stat line in his senior season with 37 receptions for 490 yards and two touchdowns. Much of his production came as a tight end, but it is yet to be determined if that will translate into the NFL. If that is the route that he wants to go, he has done well at putting on the weight to do it. He is listed as 225 on the BYU roster, but measured in at 255 pounds during his pro day. This is a solid weight for the position as most TEs come in around the 250-270 pound range.

Houk has good height and size, which makes him a big target for his quarterback. He is a versatile athlete who has played both tight end and wide receiver. Terenn is a good route runner and was consistently reliable at BYU. All qualities that should benefit him at the next level.

Here are Terenn's Pro Day results:

  • 40-yard dash - 4.84 seconds
  • 225 bench - 15 reps
  • Vertical jump - 32 inches
  • Broad jump - 10 feet 2 inches
  • 20-yard shuttle -  4.37 seconds
  • 3-cone drill -  7.24 seconds

The challenge now becomes to make the roster. The offense seems like a good fit for Houk because of their recent success throwing to Martellus Bennett at the tight end position. He will get the opportunity to play alongside Alshon Jeffery and Jay Cutler who will ideally provide some veteran leadership.

Stay tuned to Vanquish The Voe as we will be updating the situation with Terenn Houk and his new team, the as the off season progresses.
