The Salt Lake Tribune's Kyle Goon is reporting that the Utah Utes will in fact play the BYU Cougars in basketball during the 2017-2018 season. Chris Hill added to that Thursday afternoon by announcing the game will be in November or December.
This undoubtedly comes as a surprise for everyone as it seemed the rivalry was over for at least a significant period of time. You can find the full article from the Salt Lake Tribune here.

Another note is that this is not going to be a neutral site game. Utah's head basketball coach, Larry Krystkowiak specifically cited Provo as a place he did no want to play, so playing there less than two years from saying that is intriguing.
Both teams will look slightly different a year from now so it may be too early to speculate on the outcome. Many Cougar' fans were worried about the 'Lone Peak 3' having an opportunity to play the Runnin' Utes. With this news, it seems like that wish will come to fruition.
