Cougs on Cougs: The rendezvous between BYU football and basketball and Broadway’s Hamilton

Jess and Mary share their favorite mashups between BYU sports and Broadway sensation Hamilton.

In episode 23 of Cougs on Cougs, Jess and Mary pay tribute to #23 King James with the quote of the week and tie him in to BYU Football with an emotional and hilarious LeBron meme. We also announce the winner of our kid’s art contest and share some photos of your dads in BYU gear in honor of Father’s Day.

It’s officially summer! Unfortunately that only means the off-season stretches on for a few more months. Seems like the perfect time for a Cougs and Culture segment. Broadway’s Hamilton has taken the country by storm, garnering a record 16 Tony nominations (and winning 11 of them). The hip-hop musical’s story about Founding Father Alexander Hamilton’s implausible rise to the top and his tragic downfall showcases themes of victory, defeat, determination and hard work—the same themes that play out in sports. Jess and Mary are not throwing away their shot to introduce you to one of their favorite hashtags, #CougsAndHam, in which they combine their love of this pop culture phenomenon with BYU sports. If you’re a Hamilton fan (and you are, even if you don’t know it yet), join in the fun and send us your own #CougsAndHam mashups.*

Kyle Collinsworth has been all over the country participating in workouts with NBA teams in preparation for Thursday’s draft. Check out where he’s been:

That’s the Kings, Lakers, Jazz, Timberwolves, Mavericks, Bucks, Pacers, Raptors, Hawks, Knicks, Nets and a workout for scouts at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

As always, we round up this week’s news from the BYU social mediasphere in our Talk of the Town segment, including BYU Basketball’s new graduate transfer LJ Rose (and his tattoos), an Elder Mo Langi sighting, a Troy Bolton look-alike, and new Cougs on campus.

Football Fireside info here.

*Warning: Hamilton contains some explicit language.
